Wood is naturally porous and can absorb moisture if not properly protected. Water left standing near sinks, seams, or edges may cause swelling, staining, or warping. A properly applied finish helps protect the wood, but butcher block requires more attention to moisture than laminate, quartz, or solid surface countertops.

Scratch, UV, and Heat Resistance

Butcher block can be scratched or dented by knives, cookware, and everyday use. Natural wood can change color when exposed to sunlight. Some wood species darken over time, while others may lighten or develop a warmer tone. Butcher block will be heat resistant to most kitchen use.

Maintenance

Scratch, UV, and Heat Resistance
Scratch, UV, and Heat Resistance

Clean solid surface countertops with a soft cloth or sponge, warm water, and mild dish soap. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for removing stains and refinishing the selected surface finish.

Environmental Impact

Environmental Impact

Solid surface countertops are made from mineral fillers and synthetic resins, which require energy and resources to manufacture. They are not typically biodegradable and recycling options are limited.

Installation

Environmental Impact

Solid surface countertops generally require professional fabrication and installation. Specialized tools, adhesives, and finishing techniques are used to create nearly invisible seams and smooth transitions. We work with a professional installation team that will install the tops you order.
